PRIVATE EVENT is a jazz group led by veteran saxophonist Dave Sterner with 20+ years experience performing, recording and leading musical groups throughout the region. The group performs a wide variety of musical styles, including swing, ballads, Latin jazz and holiday favorites. Its repertoire comes from the American Song Book and includes familiar songs made famous by such legendary crooners as Frank Sinatra (Fly Me to the Moon, Night and Day), Nat King Cole (Unforgettable) and Louis Armstrong (What a Wonderful World).
The group performs as a quartet, but can be reduced to a trio or duo depending on space, budget and volume concerns. The group’s demo recording includes three different versions of the song Things Ain’t What They Used to Be, demonstrating the three different instrumentations.
The members of PRIVATE EVENT have performed with such national acts as Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Harry Connick Jr., Donny Osmond, and Tony Bennett, and such local acts as, The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, The Fat Tuesday Big Band, the Jazz Heritage Orchestra and many others. Dave has received the award for “best horn player” and “best jazz group” from Cleveland Scene magazine.
We know how important your event is and will work with you to ensure its success. There are no artistic egos at work here, just the desire to provide you with enjoyable, headache-free music. So for your next private function, reception or holiday party we hope you’ll make it a PRIVATE EVENT.
Dave Sterner is a part-time faculty member at Cuyahoga Community College’s jazz program and Lakeland Community College, where he directs the Lakeland Civic Jazz Orchestra and co-directs the Lakeland Jazz Fest. He has released two CDs under his own name and appears as a featured performer with other recorded groups, including the Fat Tuesday Big Band and the N. Glenn Davis Quartet/Quintet.
